Mend Your Home started in 2017 as one person with a van in Crawley. It grew on referrals rather than advertising, which is a slower way to build a business and a much harder one to fake.
Most plumbing companies tell you they are trustworthy. There is no way for you to check that before you hand over your house keys and a few thousand pounds, which is exactly the problem with this trade.
So here is what can actually be checked. Our engineer publishes technical training content for other professional plumbers and gas engineers, stripping down real faults on real jobs and explaining what went wrong. It has been watched 3,587,902 times. You cannot fake that in front of an audience of tradespeople who do this for a living.
The second thing you can check is the reviews, and specifically what they say rather than how many stars they carry. People mention being told a repair was not worth doing. They mention not being charged a weekend premium. One customer describes us fixing his boiler and refusing to charge him because he would have been wasting his money. That is the business.
A meaningful part of our work is putting right jobs done badly by someone else, including work by large national firms. We see the same failures over and over: boilers oversized to make a quote look competitive, new appliances fitted onto filthy systems, guarantees quietly invalidated because nobody bothered with a magnetic filter. It is the reason we are blunt about specification when other people would rather not be.
Who is behind it
Myron David, founder and Gas Safe registered engineer
Myron David founded Mend Your Home in Crawley in 2017 and still leads the engineering. He is Gas Safe registered and qualified across plumbing, gas, unvented hot water and heat pumps; the full list is below.
He is also the engineer behind the Mend Your Home YouTube channel, where other plumbers and gas engineers watch real faults being diagnosed and put right, and which has been viewed more than 3.5 million times. The advice guides on this site are written from the same work.

Four things we do not compromise on
Reliability
We turn up when we said we would. If we are running late you get a message, not silence. Read the reviews and you will notice how often people mention this, which says something about the rest of the trade.
Quality
No shortcuts and no cheap parts to make a margin. If a job needs doing twice it was not done properly the first time, and we are usually the ones called to fix that.
Transparency
Fixed prices before we start, and a plain explanation of what needs doing and why. If you do not need the work we will say so. We have talked people out of new boilers.
Care
Floors covered, shoes off, mess taken away. We treat your house like it is ours, because you have to live in it after we leave.
